Thanksgiving!

Hi! This is actually Kelly, Emily's sister. The two of them (Eric and Emily) are not very good at keeping this updated--and people are always asking to see pics, so I decided to take charge and do it myself! Eric, Emily, Drew and I celebrated Thanksgiving this year in Birmingham. Here a few pics!

Fall 2009

I apologize for the boring title of this entry, but I sat and stared at the screen for 2 minutes and this is the best I could come up with. The last month or so has gone by pretty quickly. Emily has been feeling good and Ellie is growing each and everyday. We were at the doctor again this week and everything checked out great! Right now I think Ellie is somewhere around 16 inches long and about 2 or 3 lbs. We have done alot of work on her nursery and it is fun to see it coming together and thinking that in less than 3 months, she will be here!
It's amazing how quickly the last few months have gone by. Basketball season is underway, so I am keeping busy at school, then with practice and games. Emily, Kelly, and Drew have begun another season as Hoover Bucs Basketball's top fans. Emily is entering her last couple weeks of student teaching, then graduation!!! I'm really proud of how hard she has worked for her Masters (she has a 4.0, even though she wouldn't want me to write that.) As many of you can guess, that is a little better than the author of this blog did during his undergrad days at Purdue. Speaking of the Boilers, how about the #6 ranked Boiler basketball team!
Over the last month we've had some great times. We celebrated Drew's birthday the end of October (check out the intensity as he blows out the candles on his cake), went to Ruth and Andrew'sw wedding, enjoyed a visit from Michael who came down from Chicago last weekend to hang out, go to the Hoover game friday (where we got pictures with the Heisman trophy), and then we went to the Alabama vs LSU game Saturday which was a great time. So it has been a busy couple of weeks, but they have been alot of fun.
In other news, Harvey (our dog) is still doing his normal thing. In fact, let me walk you through a typical day in the life of Harvey.

6:00am- Wake up, bark once, look around groggily, crawl back under the covers and back to sleep
7:15am- Get in kennel to monitor all passersby on Colony Lane for the day
3:30pm- Celebrate as Emily comes home from school
3:31pm- Sprint from front to back to front to back of house (crashing into door at approximately 84mph because you have not figured out we have hardwood floors)
3:32pm- run around back yard peeking through fence, in case any cats can be seen
6:00pm- Bark in an extremely loud voice at Eric, who you are convinced is breaking in the house...again
7:00pm- Beg for food at the table, making everyone feel that you are underfed, resulting in either Kelly or Emily slipping you something OR just take some corn on the cob for yourself (see in picture)
10:00pm- Get in bed and push Eric around to remind him that this is not his bed, rather, it is yours and he is lucky to even be allowed to be in it.

I've attached some pictures from lately, but have no idea where they will show up in this entry. So I hope you either enjoyed the pictures you have already seen or enjoy the ones that you are about to see. Go Gators and Boiler Up!!!

Baby Shower & Go Boilers!

Well, this past weekend we headed up to West Lafayette to visit my family, go to the Purdue vs. Ohio State game, and for a baby shower that my mom was having for Emily and Ellie. We arrived late on Thursday night to a temperature of about 38 degrees. When we pulled out of B-ham that afternoon I believe it was about 68 degrees.....so this was somewhat of a change.
Kevin and I had been planning to play some golf and we were not about to let the rain and 35 degree temperatures keep us from those plans. So we toughed out the British Open-esque conditions and had the entire course to ourselves, it was great. Emily spent the day with Mom doing a little shopping and then the whole Ness/Troyer crew got together to celebrate Grandma Troyer's 90th Birthday.
Saturday morning meant tailgating and heading to the Purdue game. Now, those non-Purdue fans out there need to understand that we were huge underdogs to Ohio State going into the game. After great times seeing all my friends before the game, our family headed into the stadium. Long story short, Purdue pulled off its first big football win since FDR's presidency....(actually 2003, but it felt longer) It was pandemonium as fans rushed the field....including my family and of course, my pregnant wife (to say she rushed the field would not be true...it was more like a controlled walk).
Following the game we enjoyed visiting with Grandma and Grandpa Ness, then headed back for an October birthday celebration (Kev, Emily, Drew, Uncle Lefty) at the Troyer House. We capped off the night back at my good friend Matt Scott's house telling stories from the good ole days in WL. (a true tradition of getting together with my buddies)
On Sunday was the baby shower. Everything was beautiful and it was great to have so many friends and family there to celebrate Ellie! Emily really enjoyed getting to spend time with everyone and she appreciated how nice a job that Mom and Aunt Diane did with everything. We are also SO THANKFUL for all of the nice gifts that people gave us for Ellie. She will love them all I am sure. I made a guest appearance at the end...to provide some labor for carrying all the gifts to the car and to say thank you to everyone. The transition from eating lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings with Dad, Kev, and my friends to walking into a baby shower was interesting to say the least.
It really was an amazing trip and we enjoyed the time we were able to spend with our family and friends. It's always great to get back to WL and we can't wait for our next trip home when it will be all three of us heading up north!

Ellie Kate Ness

Yep....we have a name. We spent lots of time thinking about what we were going to name our baby once we found out that we were pregnant. From the very start, both of us loved the name Ellie and once we found out we were having a baby girl we decided on the name really quickly. The middle name took a little longer, but once again we were both big fans of the name Kate.

An Amazing Day.....

"Oh come, let us sing to the Lord! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; let us shout joyfully to Him with praise. For the Lord is the great God..." Psalm 95

Emily and I have always heard people say that as you get older there are certain days of your life that you will never forget. I know that today is one of those days. After months of wondering whether God would bless us with a baby boy or baby girl, we have our answer. (Begin drumroll in background......) We are having a BABY GIRL!!!!!!!! We could not be more excited.

The day began with both of us heading off to school knowing it would be impossible for us to focus because of our excitement for what we would find out this afternoon. Finally we both hurried home and headed to the doctor. With our roommate/sister/sister-in-law Kelly alongside we pulled into the hospital in typical fashion...exactly one minute before the appointment time. Fortunately we were not holding anyone up as there were somewhere between 10,767 and 11,323 people in the waiting room. Then when Emily was called back and I went back with her we could barely take the excitement anymore. So....we waited 15 minutes then went back into the waiting room. It was like being called in from the bullpen...only to realize the coach had called for the guy sitting next to you. Then after about 20 more minutes we were headed in for real.

Seeing the ultrasound was awesome. I dont know how else to describe it. I used to think meeting Reggie Miller was the coolest thing I'd ever done...then I went scuba diving....then I saw our baby during the ultrasound. The ocean is beautiful, Reggie was awesome.......but seeing our baby in the ultrasound blows away everything else I have ever seen. We were both smiling as wide as you can imagine as we saw each feature of our 5 inch long and 12 oz. little baby. As the nurse focused in at the big moment and told us that it was a baby girl.......here are our thoughts at the time.

Emily's Thoughts: "I am so happy to be having a sweet little girl.....that means pink cowboy boots, Amy Butler fabric, and tutu's!!!"

Eric's Thoughts: "Yes, I am so excited, that's what I really wanted. I can't wait to hold that cute little baby in my arms." (Later on my thoughts turned to our daughter's future career on the LPGA Tour)

The rest of the day was spent repeating how thankful we were and excited to be having little baby girl! We also called the future grandparents, great grandparents, and Kevin and enjoyed celebrating over the phone with them. We made the patented stops at Baby Gap and Babies R Us and then headed to the place everyone goes to celebrate such an amazing day.....Yuki Japanese Steakhouse (nothing says celebration quite like the guy spinning the egg on the grill for his signature "Japanese Egg Roll" Joke)

All of that being said, September 16th will always hold a special place in our heart after today. Finding out we will have a baby girl and getting to see her in the ultrasound was amazing. We will both cherish this day for the rest of our lives. We thank the Lord for this amazing miracle and blessing He has given to us!

We're Having a Baby!!!!

That's right.....we could not be more excited. Our due date is February 4th, 2010 and we are so thankful for this blessing from the Lord. Emily has been feeling much better the last couple of weeks, which we are thankful for. She is at 13 weeks...I believe that means she is just finished with the first trimester. I came to that conclusion by taking the 40 weeks of a pregnancy and dividing by 3 to get 13 weeks a trimester. Seriously, no joke, I figured it out without the help of a doctor, a book, or google.

Harvey, our jack russell, is handling the news pretty well. He has decided that to celebrate the news, he will continue his daily routine. This includes, but is not limited to.....sleeping in the bed because he believes he is human, running through the house somewhere between 83 and 86mph from the front door to the backdoor, staring out the window, barking at passersby, and trying to convince us that he really does need to be fed 7 times a day.

Random first entry from Eric

Well, here I am creating my first blog entry....what an honor. As I write this I am fully aware that no one, literally not one person will be reading this until either Emily or I tell them that it is on here. That is funny to me. I mean, I know once this whole thing gets going it will be a great way to keep our friends, family, and random people who check out other people's blogs up to date with what is going one. But come on....right now at 11:17pm on Thursday night, I am writing this.....to myself.

trying it out!

I am trying to figure out how to do this!
